Lennard Road, London
Cannonside Ltd required architectural services to design an apartment scheme on a very small derelict plot of land located in south west London. The scheme went through a vigorous design process with the client and the local planning authority. The scheme had numerous design options internally and externally. The process meant there were 3 pre-application meetings with the local planning authority prior to an extensive full planning application.
The design incorporates all requirements when designing within a London Borough, meets all planning policy requirements and was designed with extensive detail and rigour to the tight urban and dense location.
The new build apartments were carefully constructed with care and finesse the apartments are a great modern design within an ideal south west London location.
South Gable, Reigate, Surrey
Prior to engaging PRA the client had a refused planning and had a negative planning response due to a previous design. The new design ensured the scheme respected the location with regards to the green belt, area of outstanding natural beauty and area of great landscape value.
The design created a basement design with one storey only being visible at ground level, this was to respect the planning constraints and surrounding landscape. This results in a low linear form resulting in a low pavilion building.
This design allowed for a unique sunken courtyard, which creates a private amenity space for the family, while being a secure haven for the children and creates relief from the prevailing wind and road noise. The building is orientated to allow the habitable rooms to capture south westerly sun to enjoy specific solar gain and sunset.
Four Walls, Surrey
The scheme was designed to ensure the architecture responds to the clients wishes of family living in their self build home and positively responds to the surrounding area and all required national and local planning policies. The new design is a simple yet elegant low profile building, which enhances the landscape.
The proposed development has been designed to have minimal impact upon the surroundings. The building has been designed to include specific materials to help allow the building to sit comfortably within the green belt environment.
The natural landscape enables the scheme to include a basement environment which holds a workshop, swimming pool, gymnasium and sauna. The design ensures natural light and ventilation is easily introduced to the semi type basement for a high quality family home.
The design also includes a private sunken courtyard.
The building height and volume were an important factors with regards to planning. The architectural design responded to this while retaining key design features to the architectural quality of the internal spaces such as the double height spaces.
